A 237 GHz Traveling Wave Tube for Cloud Radar

چکیده
In this article, the first 237 GHz traveling wave tube (TWT) is presented as a high-power amplifier for terahertz (THz) cloud radar. As common with previous G-band tubes developed at Beijing Vacuum Electronics Research Institute, employs 20 kV, 50 mA pencil electron beam focused using periodic permanent magnets (PPMs) to achieve compactness. A folded waveguide (FWG) slow-wave structure (SWS) modified circular bends optimized provide high impedance and eliminate sideband oscillations. Limited by insufficient drive power, device not saturated. The measured maximum output power gain are 8.9 W 35.7 dB, 3 dB bandwidth achieves 4 GHz.

Microfabrication and cold testing of copper circuits for a 50 Watt, 220 GHz traveling wave tube
We present the microfabrication and cold test measurement results of serpentine waveguide amplifier circuits at 220 GHz. The circuits were fabricated using a novel embedded polymer monofilament technique combined with UltravioletLIGA to simultaneously create both the beam tunnel and interaction circuits. We find remarkable characteristic matches between the measurements of the best circuits, il...

An experimental study of picosecond pulse amplification in a gyrotron-traveling wave tube (gyro-TWT) has been carried out. The gyro-TWT operates with 30 dB of small signal gain near 140 GHz in the HE₀₆ mode of a confocal waveguide. Picosecond pulses show broadening and transit time delay due to two distinct effects: the frequency dependence of the group velocity near cutoff and gain narrowing b...

The landmark construction of the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA)–Lincoln C-band Observables Radar (ALCOR) at Kwajalein Atoll in 1970 sparked significant interest in the ballistic missile defense (BMD) and satellite-identification communities [1]. ALCOR's 50 cm range resolution using 512 MHz bandwidth data confirmed the viability of valuable new BMD discrimination techniques and provide...
متن کاملAnalysis of a traveling wave tube tuned by a cavity
We present a theoretical analysis of a system composed of two periodic structures separated by a uniform waveguide section, taking into consideration the impedance mismatch at both ends of the system. First we examine the effect of the reflections on.the output gain for a single stage system, i.e., when the uniform waveguide is not present. It is shown that if the product of the gain and the re...
